The Houghton County Volunteer Resource and Donation Center (located at the former JC Penny Store), which was opened in response to the June 17th flood disaster, is now officially closed. The goods that were housed there have been distributed to local charities. If any flood victims need bottled water or cleaning supplies, they can contact the Salvation Army at 906-482-3420 during their normal business hours, Monday–Friday from 8:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Residents needing bottled water can also check with their local fire departments. Flood victims needing other assistance should contact local charities.
Those who would still like to help the effort are may donate to the Portage Health Foundation and/or the Keweenaw Community Foundation, both of which are collecting and allocating funds specifically for flood recovery. Those seeking to volunteer or assist flood victims in other ways should contact local organizations, including Salvation Army, Red Cross, and Habitat for Humanity.
