UPDATE FROM WESTERN U.P. HEALTH DEPARTMENT
Case rates has spiked dramatically in Gogebic and Houghton counties, driving the western U.P.'s case rate per 100,000 people to 275.6. Last week it was at 216.7. In the last seven days two people in Houghton County died, while one died in Baraga and Gogebic counties.

THERE ARE WEEKLY FREE COVID-19 ANTIGEN TESTING AND VACCINATION CLINICS
The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department announces that it has partnered with the Michigan National Guard to provide weekly free community wide COVID-19 antigen testing and vaccination sites at several locations in the health district.
The free clinics begin this week and run through the month of October. Clinic locations include:
- Tuesdays, Memorial Building, 213 S. Marquette St., Ironwood, MI, Hours to be determined.
- Wednesdays, Ontonagon Village Fire Hall, 315 River St., Ontonagon, MI, 10 AM to 5 PM ET.
- Thursdays, 821 Water Street, Hancock, MI, 8 AM to 6 PM ET.
Moderna and J&J vaccine will be available at all clinics. Pfizer vaccine is available on a limited basis; please call your local health department office for more information. Booster information will be shared once final recommendations are received from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
Pre-registration is not required, and participants do not need insurance, a prescription or a doctor’s order to be tested. Participants are encouraged to wear a mask and bring a driver’s license or other photo ID.

Frontline UPdates is a group of healthcare communication professionals from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (Region 8). They have formed a Joint Information Center so that they can share common messages across the Upper Peninsula about the COVID-19 efforts. Follow along on the Frontline UPdates Facebook page. Above is their latest update, which includes hospitalizations, ICU bed utilization and ventilator utilization. These numbers are updated daily on the Frontlines UPdates Facebook page.
Today's update shows nine more hospitalizations and three more patients occupying ICU beds than last Thursday. There is one less adult patient on a ventilator.
