Updates from Western U.P. Health Department

  • Updated COVID-19 test totals are not available for today. No new positives to report.

Area-Wide Update

  • There is an increasing number of rumors growing up across the area. Here are a couple of clarifications:  Information pulled from michigan.gov/coronavirus.
    • Does Executive Order 2020-42 ban the purchasing of car seats for children?
      • No. Car seats may be available for purchase.
    • Does Executive Order 2020-42 prohibit buying an American flag?
      • No. While the order places certain limits on how goods are sold, it does not ban Michiganders from buying any item, including flags. Stores may, on their own accord, place restrictions on the products they sell, or modify how they are sold to maintain social distancing requirements. Large stores (those with greater than 50,000 sq. ft. have been asked to: "Close areas of the store—by cordoning them off, placing signs in aisles, posting prominent signs, removing goods from shelves, or other appropriate means—that are dedicated to the following classes of goods: Carpet or flooring, furniture, garden centers and plant nurseries, paint." These areas often have groups of people gathering or require more in-person assistance, which would violate social distancing requirements.

Updates from Baraga County

  • Today the Baraga County Emergency Manager took delivery of some much-needed personal protective equipment (PPE). The PPE was supplied by the Region 8 Health Care Coalition. The PPE was distributed to the Baraga County Memorial Hospital, Bayside Village, and Bay Ambulance.

Updates from Houghton & Keweenaw Counties

  • For their protection during the course of their duties, all law enforcement officers in Keweenaw and Houghton counties have been properly fitted for N95 masks, and equipped with a mask and face shield for use when needed. Thanks to the Houghton County Medical Examiner, Dr. Kotov, the hospitals, Jon Stone, and many others for their assistance in fit testing, acquiring and distributing this equipment.
  • Houghton County received a shipment of PPE supplies today from the Region 8 Health Care Coalition. These are designated for delivery to health care facilities throughout the county over the next two days. Equipment included gowns and face shields.
